Day 1 of How to lose 100+ pounds in one year

May 6, 2009 Wednesday

One year from today, I plan to look back at this first blog and remember my trek to losing 100+ pounds.

In attempts to get healthy and to be motivated in getting healthy, I have decided to go public with my weight loss plans. I plan on using a variety of methods of weight loss plans such as the liquid diet, protein diet, fruit diet, organic diet, and various other diets out there that is “accessible” to me. I hope to show the world what it is like to go on these diets and which diet works best overall in losing the weight.

In addition, I plan on using various exercises to lose weight. Of course we can’t forget exercise! On busy days, I will use the 10 minute Tony Horton Dvds; On regular days, the Billy Blanks Tae-Bo Amped Dvds, and whatever exercise Dvds that may be “accessible” to me. Then there will be your regular walking days, exercise bicycle days, and so forth.

I plan to use pictures and videos (if they will be helpful) for my blogs.

My history:

Currently, I am 290.5-291 pounds. I am obviously in the obese category. I recall being 120 lbs in 1994-5, and then being 140 lbs for some time afterwards. I started gaining weight drastically in 1998-9 when I took some medications for a health condition. The rate at which I was gaining weight was 50-70 lbs in 2-3 months. I got off those medications, however, that started the pounds to just accumulate on me. I also started getting tired more often so I would drink a lot of coffee and eat a lot of food. (I hope to get off coffee/caffiene as well–during this one year trek). It is possible that I started using food as a mode of comfort for being depressed about how I gained so much weight.

To be frank, I don’t think I mind being fat 1/2 the time. Due to some personal issues, I don’t mind being “unattractive”…The only time my weight bothers me is when I get tired from just walking up 2-3 flight of stairs. When I have a hard time taking a shower or bath because I’m so fat. When I end up huffing and puffing just walking down the block with my family. -And most especially, when I get scared about the “bonus” illnesses that come along with being overweight. Thus far, I haven’t gotten diabetes, but according to some doctors, due to my “situation” and family health history, there’s a high chance.

So why do I want to lose weight? For all of the above reasons. -But most of all, to stop feeling tired all the time and to be healthy. Due to my weight, I feel tired all the time and thus drink A LOT of coffee. I am addicted to coffee and can’t seem to get off it from being tired.

How does being fat relate to being tired and coffee? See it this way, when there’s a small cup of water and a large cup of water…If you fill one spoon of coffee in the both cups, most likely, the large cup of water will dissolve the coffee completely. It’s also more diluted than the small cup. Thus, a lighter color of brown. However, the small cup of water might not dissolve all the coffee….and will most likely be a darker color than the large cup of water with one spoon of coffee.

This is like the human being with more than 80% water in their body. (Of course, I’m considering the person who is not addicted to coffee for both examples.)

There is also that example of walking 1 mile. A person who is 100lbs overweight will have to carry an extra 100lbs compared to the healthy person. This is almost like walking with two buckets that weight 50lbs. As a result, the overweight person would be more tired than the healthy person.

Day 1: Me going on the scale. Funny thing is that the scale initially shows 288? then 291.
